ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL?

ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL?

Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls children of all ages, The NCAA and the NFL are proud to present to you the 2010 Football Season. It is finally here. I realize football does not kick off in a meaningful game for another 5 weeks, but think about everything you need to know between now and then...who is winning all of the conferences this coming college season, will there be any BCS Busters, what about the Heisman Trophy - who should we expect to see in New York? That is just on the college side, the NFL has their own unique set of questions...Are the Jets ready to unseat the Pats, can the Saints repeat, how does Philly's gamble pay off, and I almost forgot about that quiet duo in Cincinnati? There is so much to cover, that I have to go ahead now and throw us into football mode at the end of July to try to cover it all.

On Wednesday, I promised you that I would give you 10 games that will impact the National Championship picture in College Football, I could not do it. There are so many meaningful games because one loss could ruin your season. So here is my list narrowed down the best I could do...

September 6---Boise state at Virginia Tech

October 2---Texas at Oklahoma
---Florida at Alabama

October 9---FSU at Miami

October 16---BYU at TCU
---Texas at Nebraska

October 30---Florida v UGA

November 6---Alabama at LSU

November 13---Penn State at Ohio State

November 20---Va Tech at Miami
---Ohio State at Iowa

November 27---Florida at FSU

This is really hard. I want to go ahead and start breaking these games down. There are so many story lines for each of these games that I could devote an entire blog to each of the games. Let me tell you how these games got deemed as important games. It starts with National importance. You will notice that USC is not on this list at all. That is easy, they can not play for the National Championship and they are the only Pac 10 team who has any shot at going undefeated, therefore, the Pac 10 does not appear on this list. With that being said, I think at least 1 team from each of the games listed could be in the National Championship picture at the time of the game. I think there are some teams who will not not necessarily be eliminated from the National Title picture with one loss. For instance, if Florida loses at Alabama on October 2, but then beats them in the SEC Championship game in Atlanta, I could still see them making the BCS Title Game. So I had to consider those factors. Some of these teams (Boise State, BYU, TCU, Big 10 or ACC schools) one loss will guarantee they will not be playing for a National Title. UGA makes the list not because they will contend for National Title, but they are going to be good enough to shock some people and could potentially beat Florida (no that is not a prediction). I do think you should pay close attention to a couple of former powers from the ACC who ARE ON THEIR WAY BACK---FSU & Miami. Does that mean I think FSU will win the BCS Title Game by 4 touchdowns---NO! I truly believe that the Seminoles may have the best qb in the country with Christian Ponder and this game still depends a lot on qb play, and let's not forget the addition of the defensive genius that is Mark Stoops.

NOW with all of that being said, let me give you THE BEST WEEKEND OF THE YEAR!!! I don't know what you had planned, but for the weekend of September 9 - 13, your plams just changed. Go ahead and take a few personal days at work, because there will be that much action over those 5 days. It will get started on Thursday with the kickoff of the regular NFL season. The Minnesota Vikings are traveling back to the place where their season so painfully ended last season to take on the defending Super Bowl Champion Saints. If you like college, you will get Auburn visiting Mississippi State. On Saturday September 11th, COLLEGE FOOTBALL WILL GIVE US THE BEST SPORTING DAY OF THE YEAR!!! There are at least 3 games that have National Championship implications, and several other games that will impact conference battles. Here is the slate for that day of college football action...

South Florida at Florida---should be good early test for John Brantley

Georgia Tech at Kansas

Georgia at South Carolina---always a close matchup, UGA will be good and Spurrier finally has a solid qb in Stephen Garcia.

Florida State at Oklahoma---Stoops v. Stoops as Mark goes home to face his brother Bob. Will be a MAJOR TEST for the Oklahoma O-Line who really struggled last year. Could be a showcase game for Heisman Hopeful Christian Ponder.

Michigan at Notre Dame---it's always special when these two gets together.

Miami at Ohio State---this is Ohio State's most dangerous threat to an undefeated season and a possible spot in the BCS Title Game. This will be Terrell Pryor's opportunity to make his Heisman case.

Penn State at Alabama---two storied programs with tradition. This game will be watching just for the classic look of both uniforms.

Oregon at Tennessee--two teams who have been in the news all off season for all of the wrong reasons.

Virginia at USC

That is 9 good matchups. The games all have some form of an interesting story line. This is as good of a Saturday as I have seen in several years. Like I said, do not miss this day, it is time to call in every favor you have for this day. I hope I have at least got you thinking about football. Tell me about what you are looking forward to. Give me your lists of players, teams to watch. I am curious to what you are thinking or looking forward to for your team or conference.

UNTIL NEXT TIME..

SOME THINGS YOU WILLNOT READ...

SOME THINGS YOU WILL NOT READ...

July is quickly coming to a close. There are so manythings that I will have to write about over the next several months, I do not know how I am going to keep up. The MLB Trade Deadline is quickly approaching and even though I do not think any big names will be moved, I do think you could see some important role players get moved, I am always interested in that. The push for the MLB playoffs will be in full swing and this will be exciting until it takes a full month to complete the playoffs (way to long, I will lose interest in this at the end of the 1st week). Football will be getting ready to kick off. You will have the NFL Season get under way on August 8 with the Hall of Fame Game. The colleg season kicks off five weeks from tomorrow. There are so many things that I will have to write about, I will need about 3 blogs a day just to keep all of you up to speed with what is going on. So as we prepare for the start of all of this madness, I am going to tell you somethings you will not read on this blog.

1. FANTASY FOOTBALL!!! I will pllay fantasy football this year, However, I WILL NOT HELP YOU PREPARE FOR YOUR FANTASY DRAFT!!! I do not care about stats are impressive and I will talk impressive performances, however, I realize that numbers are misleading. I will watch games and tell you what I think based on what happens on the field. I am not intereseted in doing a lot of research to see what kind of steal you can get in the 9th round of your fantasy draft. Sorry.

2. NO HOMERS ALOUD!!! I am the fan of the Florida State Seminoles fan and the New England Patriots, HOWEVER, I will be neutral and unbiased in all of my comments about both of these teams. Let me give you an example, FSU will go undefeated and beat Alabama in the BCS championship game by 4 touchdowns & The Patriots will go 19 - 0 and win the Super Bowl. Please if you are going to tell me about your team be as unbiased as I am with my teams. Thanks.

3. ONLY IMPORTANT GAMES WILL BE HIGHLIGHTED!!! I am not going to break down every match up of the weekend. IF you want your team discussed root for somebody who matters, that being said, I do not think there will be much Big 10 discussion (other than Ohio State because they are all that matters from that conference). There probably will be very little Big 12 or ACC talk, however I do think the ACC is set to make a run a the national championship. Va Tech is going to lose week one, Miami is returning a lot of players from a good team and FSU is doing the same, there are some good teams down in the ACC for the first time in a long time. I am more interested in games that impact the National Championship than I am a game where you will win bragging rights. Sorry.

Now that I have told you what not to expect, THE FOOTBALL SEASON STARTS TOMORROW. I will have my first post about the upcoming football season tomorrow. I will give you 10 games that I believe will impact the National Championship picture and I will give you the biggest weekend of the year in sports. THIS WEEKEND IS A MUST FOR ANY FOOTBALL FAN!!! I am looking forward to this season and there will be lots of good football talk, I hope you will post stuff and challenge me on the views that I offer. I look forward to a great seson.

UNTIL NEXT TIME...

I'M SORRY!

I'M SORRY!

I posted a an article on Monday titled "The True Meaning of a Hero". It was an article about Tom Brady reporting to camp on time. It was written as an attempt to get a reaction, I know that many of my readers are big Peyton Manning fans and I wrote it to get some interest from them.

After posting it, I received the following comments on it...

"Brady is an ok football player but don't think that you can compare him to a real hero. That is what is wrong with the society today they take the word HERO and use it very loosely. If you want to talk about a football player that is a hero write and article about Pat Tillman. The man left millions of dollars behind to go fight for our freedom so that people can have the freedom that we have here in this great country. The last stats that I checked on Brady didn't qualify him as a hero. A great QB I give him that. Nothing personal I just don't take the HERO word being used loosely like that and trust me I know plenty of HERO's that have jeopardized there life so I don't appreciate it being used in comparison to the way it is used here. But think your articles are rather interesting at times. Keep it up. Trust me you know who this is. Later "

I am not going to even address the Brady comments, because there is something more important that sports about these comments. It is something that until I read these comments I missed, and that is how casually people use the word HERO! No, Tom Brady is not a hero and should not be. He is paid millions to play a game and that does not bother me, but what did bother me after reading these comments is the way I used the word simply to get a reaction. The comments were exactly right about Pat Tillman being a TRUE HERO!He left his football career to go defend this country and that is way more heroic than anything that happens on any playing field.

I am sorry for using this term so loosely. I was wrong for even jokingly comparing Tom Brady to a hero. The real heros are the men and women who protect this country whether it be through the military, law enforcement, the fire fighters, the teachers who are responsible for teaching the youth of this country. YOU ARE ALL TRUE HEROS AND I AM SORRY FOR COMPARING TOM BRADY OR ANY OTHER ATHLETE TO YOU!

THE TRUE MEANING OF A HERO...

THE TRUE MEANING OF A HERO...

Now, that we are through with all of the cheerleading talk, I want to talk to all my peeps out there who know about real sports. I want to talk football and I want to tell you the story that many of you are not familiar with, because even as much as I follow football, I did not know about this story. This is a story of a REAL LIFE HERO. This is the stony of someone who displays so much work ethic and humility that we would all say I hope my boy grows up to have half as much character as this guy does. This is the story of a little know guy who puts his ego aside for the good of his football team. This is the story of a guy who has overcome all of the odds in his career. This is the story of a guy who IS A HERO!!! This is the story of the selflessness of Tom Brady!

On Sunday, Tom Brady demonstrated AGAIN why he is the BEST QB IN THE NFL TODAY! He did this without throwing a pass. He did this without winning a game. He did this by going to work. In a day where all we here about is how the athletes are egotistical and driven by money, Tom Brady showed that for him, he is driven by winning, the money will take care of itself. TOM BRADY HAD EVERY REASON NOT TO REPORT TO TRAINING CAMP! He is playing on a surgically repair knee. He is going to be playing without his best offensive lineman in Logan Mankins. He is a veteran, how important is training camp really...right Brett? However, Brady displayed the type of character in his profession that made him say I WILL RISK MY CAREER AND ALL OF MY FUTURE EARNINGS b/c that is what will make my team better.

Please go ahead and start telling me know about how much money he makes. FIRST OFF...TOM BRADY IS UNDERPAID!!! I realize nobody is worth the kind of money that athletes get paid, but sports is it's own planet and on that planet there is nobody better than Brady. Go ahead, make your case for Manning, Brees, but there is nobody else who is even in the discussion. You will not find 3 other guys who you can make a case for wanting over Brady---NO FANTASY STATS LOSERS, I AM TALKING REAL FOOTBALL THAT IS PLAYED ON THE FIELD!!! (Sorry, I hate being that mean, but sometimes you force me to do it). When we look at Brady's salary, he is in the last year, which anyone who knows anything about football salaries knows, you are never supposed to see that money, you would either be renegotiated or cut before that happens.

He is only going to make $6.5 million this season. I can't locate a list of current NFL Salaries so I am going to work off last years numbers. Last season, Tom Brady was the 17TH HIGHEST PAID QB IN THE NFL!!! 16 guys made more o\money that Brady last year. He made $8 million, Manning made almost double that ($14 mil), Brees ($12) 1.5 times what Brady made. Some of the qb's who made more than Brady made last year were: McNabb, Cassell, JAMARCUS RUSSELL, Eli Manning, Brett Favre, Phillip Rivers, David Garrad, and Kerry Collins.

If ever a player had a right to demand more money, it is Tom Brady. However, this entire off season, you have not heard Brady mention the contract unless asked about it, you have not heard him threaten to hold out, you have not heard of him being angry with management, he has just done his thing and gotten ready to play football. Thank you Tom Brady for reminding all of us that there are still some truly good guys in sports.

I realize this deal will get done, not because Brady is demanding it, but because Robert Kraft remembers where the Pats were before Tom Brady showed up. Brady is smart, he knows he is going to get payed and he has just kept the same good work ethic that has made him successful. So from me and all of the readers here at just a thought, THANK YOU TOM BRADY FOR BEING WHO YOU ARE!

Is Cheerleading a Sport...part 2

Is Cheerleading a Sport...part 2

Before I start writing, I want to say thank you to all of you who posted. There were several really good points made and a couple of the made me really think (I especially like the boxing comparison). I have decided that the only way to answer the comments is to post them as a new posting and I will respond to each one. I will post the comments and address them in the order they were posted. So here goes...

"Agreed, not to mention it takes no real talent to cheerlead. It's isn't a gift that someone can hone in on and develop to improve."
I am glad this person agreed with me, however, I can not agree with them. Cheerleading takes a great deal of talent. If you do not believe me, watch one of the competitions and then go try to perform 1 minute of one of the routines. Make no mistake about it, I am not discounting the amount of hard work or effort that goes into it,but just because it takes talent and hard work, does not make it a sport.
_____________________________________________________
"I have to disagree with this post for this reason, Sport is defined on Dictionary.com as an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature. That being the definition, we have to agree that Cheer-leading, Hunting, Fishing,Figure Skating, gymnastics, etc.. are all qualified as sports, by it's definition.

As for the idea of it being watched by judges who then give a score, if we say that is a reason for cheer-leading, etc.. to not be a sport, then we must also rule out boxing as a sport. Unless there is a KO, or TKO, the decision goes to the referee or to the JUDGES SCORE CARDS. The fact is, the things you mentioned as not being sports, all take some skill or physical prowess and are competitive among their respective participants. That in and of itself makes them a sport."

This is my favorite of all of the comments. They do not agree with me, and it is a very well thought out statement. I only hope they will read these comments and offer more thoughts. The views that were expressed really made me think. However, I think they are wrong for a couple of reasons. 1. I am not concerned with dictionary.com because that is so vague. Using that definition me jumping on a trampoline on one leg is a sport as long as I am competing against a specific amount of time. Am I involved in a sport if I am standing still shooting baskets by myself from a foul line? Of course not. What about charades...a skill, a competitive setting, and some physical prowess...NOT A SPORT THOUGH! I realize that dictionary.com says that is the definition of a sport, however, that is why I defined a sport for us. Again, a sport is any athletic activity, whether team or individual, where you can beat another person by your own merit.
As far as the comments on boxing (GREAT POINT...REALLY MADE ME THINK!) As I look at the definition of a sport again, I thought of this important fact...THE OBJECT OF A BOXING MATCH IS FOR ONE FIGHTER TO KNOCK THE OTHER ONE OUT IN A GIVEN TIME. Yes they do go to judges score cards after the fight, but that is because neither man could knock the other one out. They controlled that. Yes, they use judges, but they CAN STILL CONTROL that. In cheerleading, skating, gymnastics and other events the judges control that TOTALLY! You can not have any control over what happens after you perform. That is the difference.
AGAIN, THANK YOU FOR THE COMMENTS AND i WOULD LOVE TO KNOW WHO YOU ARE!

"Whether that be the dictionary.com definition or not, as I stand on the bank of a creek and cast pieces of hotdog attached to a string out into the water, hoping that by chance (not by skill or physical prowess) a fish decides that it is hungry, I am not playing a sport any more than I am when I sit in my office and throw wads of paper at my trashcan...Yet there it appears on ESPN2..."

Good point, I see no need to add to this.

"This all stems from some Liberal judge who says its not a sport. Well you do train hard. Have you seen the ones that try to cheer. You know the ones, That fat kid and the 40 year old washed up moms. These are the ones the first comment was refering to. The Girls/boys that work hard and train day in and day out. They are the ones that make it the sport. well that judge would say abortion is not murder but it is just that. I know that is to the extreme but, you get the point. There are probably hundreds of cases where rulings are made that are wrong and I think this is one of those cases."
This post is almost confusing. It seems like they want to throw off on the judge. I don't know, I can not speak knowledgeably about this judge or his voting record. So those comments, I will not even acknowledge. However, the fact that some of these girls train hard makes it a sport. COME ON SIR, IS THAT THE BEST YOU HAVE? The 14 year old kid who is in his basement working out is training hard, but is that a sport? The person preparing to get up and go to work and drop their kids off at the day care and then go learn a new job train hard, but is that a sport? OF COURSE NOT. As for this judge saying abortion is or is not murder again, I do not know. However, I can agree with a man on one subject and not on another. I am glad you believe abortion to be murder...YOU ARE 100% RIGHT! However, I don't know what that has to do with cheerleading.

"Casual fishing, I agree is not a sport, but trying to land the biggest fish takes skill and know how and a bit of physical ability. to say differently shows your ignorance of the sport."
Wow! You came on MY BLOG AND CALLED ME IGNORANT & YET WERE NOT SMART ENOUGH TO DEFEND YOUR POINT OF VIEW!!! This has to be some kind of PUNK'D episode or something. First off, READ THE BLOG!!! It takes more than physical ability and know how to make it a sport! Is cooling a sport? Takes ability and know how? Is hopping on one leg a sport...It takes physical ability and know how. Please feel free to respond with some actual facts, other wise, just admit it...I AM RIGHT AND YOU ARE WRONG!!!
__________________________________________________
"So would you then contend that if I were to share my "bait" with a friend, that it then qualifies as a sport? If this is the case, then you must also contend that when a basketball team practices, they are not engaging in a sport, since there is no team that they are competing against."
Question...if an ant were to grow big wings and fly to China, would that be a sport? That is about as pointless as bait sharing. I will give you a basketball practice, baseball practice is not a sport. If they break off into some kind of competitive situation, it becomes a sport, because remember, to be a sport you have to be able to beat a person or a team by your own merit.

Again thanks to all of you. I hope to hear more soon.

IS CHEERLEADING A SPORT?

IS CHEERLEADING A SPORT?

On Wednesday, U.S. District Judge Stefan Underhill ruled that Quinnipiac University in New Jersey could not replace it's women's volleyball team with a competitive cheerleading team. He ruled that cheerleading is too underdeveloped (whatever that means) to be considered a sport. This ruling has set off a debate about Is cheerleading a sport? I am here today to clearly and definitively answer this very question.

Before I tell you if I believe cheerleading is a sport, then I must give you the definition of a sport. A sport is any athletic activity, whether team or individual, where you can beat another person by your own merit. In baseball, football, basketball, racing, tennis, or even bowling the person participating in the event controls the outcome of the event that they are participating in. If a participant or a team can not directly control the outcome of an event, then we will call it exactly what it is A GAME.

True, officials can make a bad call and this can effect the game, but it does not control the outcome of the game. An individual or a team can overcome that bad call and still go on to achieve victory. However, if you have judges who watch, make a determination on how good something is, and then THEY SCORE IT, you do not have a sport, you have a game. When we look at it like this, let me tell you a few things that are not a sport: gymnastics, figure skating, fishing, hunting, and cheerleading among other things do not count as sports. Let me give you a few sports: golf, tennis, ping pong, racing, and of course all of the major sports. The important thing here is that you understand CHEERLEADING IS NOT NOW NOR WILL IT EVER BE A SPORT!!!

Please do not tell me about how hard these activities are. How hard, or the number of people who can do any activity has no influence on if it is a sport or not. Very few people can program a computer, are they athletes? Is computer programming a sport? There are very few brain surgeons, is brain surgery a sport? Of course not, be my ability or inability to do a task HAS ZERO INFLUENCE ON IT BEING A SPORT!

I know, you are ready to kill me right now. I WILL NEVER READ THIS STUPID BLOG AGAIN, I'LL SHOW HIM...why don't you really show me and prove me wrong on my own blog (with actual thougts, not just you are wrong because I said so). I have always said that I am like a parent is with a child, I will take your being upset with me because I know that I am giving out truth and someday you will look back and thank me for telling you the truth. I know that that as painful as this is for you right now, it is for your own good.

I LOOK FORWARD TO YOUR COMMENTS!!!

UNTIL NEXT TIME...

ENOUGH ALREADY!!!

ENOUGH ALREADY!!!

I am fed up with reading about the NCAA and Sports Agents. The fact that all of these smart, successful people can't figure out how to fix this problem is LUDICROUS!!! There are so many solutions to this problem but the MORONS running the NCAA and college sports can't seem to figure it out. Before I solve the biggest problem in all of college sports, I am going to give you some possible solutions and why they will not work.

SOLUTION 1:
ELIMINATE THE NFL INVOLVEMENT WITH THE COLLEGE KIDS WHILE THEY HAVE COLLEGE ELIGIBILITY. This one is just LAUGHABLE. I do not know how someone as smart as Nick Saban could make such a crazy statement. Saban, the coach who said if the NFL does not address the situation he will stop allowing their scouts access to his players. There are 2 major things about this statement: 1. As much of a problem as Agents in College Sports is, let me tell you whose problem it is not...THE NFL! What do they care if an agent throws a party and a college kid shows up? Now they would never go on record with any of this, but this is a college problem and the NFL is not going to get involved in someone else's problems. Plus, they are smart, they are sitting there saying the NCAA is exploiting these players just like all of us. 2. Could you imagine a recruiter going into the home of a college kid and being able to tell them no scout will see you in person if you go to Alabama because your coach will not allow scouts on campus. Guess what school just got eliminated from that kids list. I have a rule for life, NEVER MAKE A THREAT THAT YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO FOLLOW THROUGH ON!

SOLUTION 2:
LET'S PAY THE PLAYERS! This one sounds like the easiest solution, in fact for the longest time I thought this was the only way to go. There is only one problem...THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE! College athletics generate big money, the majority of this money is generated from the big three: Football, Basketball, and Baseball (in that order at most universities). However thanks to the Title IX LAW which was passed in 1972 college sports are required to have comparable budgets for all of their college sports, regardless of how much money that sports brings in. That means if you dedicate money to pay college football players, you have to pay the women swim team. I realize you only have a women's swim team because the football program brings in so much money. I realize that softball could not exist if not for baseball programs and the money they bring in to these schools, but what can you do, IT's THE LAW!

SOLUTION 3:
Before I give you the solution, let me just tell you THIS IS THE ONLY WAY TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. It does not affect the school, the amount of money going directly to the school, it does not affect the NCAA's relationship with the NFL. I guarantee that this will eliminate all reports of a player accepting improper benefits. What could I have in mind that the brain surgeons who run the NCAA can't come up with...ELIMINATE ALL RULES THAT DEAL WITH PLAYERS RECEIVING GIFTS FROM ANYONE NOT AFFILIATED WITH THE SCHOOL. Let agents, boosters, car dealers, and anyone else who wants to give the players gifts do it. I know what you are saying, this is crazy, but I ask you why is this so crazy? Do these guys deserve to be getting some type of benefit for the on the field performance? Of course they do. Is it fair that the quarterback is getting the same thing a the flute player who is there on a full scholarship? How is the flute player making her (yes a flute player is a girl---if I just offended you, I MEANT TO!!!) school better? How is she bringing in revenue for that school? SHE IS NOT!!! Doing it this way, all players of every sport have an equal opportunity to make some extra cash. If a local car dealership wants to run some kind of promotion but can't afford a name, maybe the punter can make some money. If not, oh well then that's his fault. Under my proposal, the school gets theirs, and the players gets theirs. THIS IS PURE GENIUS!!!

Objections:
I know what some of you are saying..."These kids are going to a great school and they are getting a great education for FREE." That works for the chemistry major, or the business management major, but for the athlete it changes because last time I checked they are there and the school charges to come see them perform. Last time I was in a sporting goods store, I did not see many jerseys with a punters number on it? Why did Florida put 15 on all of their jerseys for the last 4 years? I am sure it was total coincidence that 15 just happened to be the same number as the most popular player in school history. Funny all the jerseys now have 12 on them (John Brantley---THE NEW QB!). However, that is not even the point, the school can offer the education. If the school is caught being involved with these benefits in any way, shape, or form the NCAA can pull scholarships, bowl games or whatever else they see fit. The school offers the scholarship but that is it. As it stands now, players come in, get the illegal benefits, leave school and the university and the current players are left to accept the punishment---WHAT A JOKE! You have to change this and there is no way to make the problems go away, but this is a good start to cutting down the problem.

OH HOW SAD...

OH HOW SAD...

Today is going to be the toughest posting ever for me to write. I do not know if I have or ever again will write a column that I feel so strongly about. Even now as I sit here and try to gather my thoughts for this column, I realize that I will probably have to stop several times to get through it. Please be patient with me, I am going to try my best.

Many of you who do not know me, may not realize this, but I am a huge softy. I hate watching sad movies because they always make me cry******(see comments below). I hate people taking advantage of people who can not defend themselves.

Ladies and Gentlemen of the jury, TODAY, I AM HERE TO FIGHT FOR THE LITTLE GUY!!! TODAY, I WANT TO, NO I HAVE TO, DEFEND THOSE WHO CAN NOT DEFEND THEMSELVES!!! Who has committed such a heinous act? Who is this poor innocent victim? Why is nobody stepping up to to help the little guy? I am ashamed of us as a sports community because all of you are just acting like this is no big deal. PLEASE STAND UP AND FIGHT FOR THE LITTLE GUY!!!

Over the next several days for all of you, I will argue the case of THE NCAA v. Reggie Bush and the University of Southern California (known as USC). I realize there are also charges concerning O.J. Mayo and the basketball program, however, we are only looking at the charges and penalties against the football program.

OPENING ARGUMENT:
The Defendant in this case is Pete Carroll, Reggie Bush, and the USC football program. The Prosecutor, is a corporation who has made a fortune off of controlling the lives of young men and exploiting them for millions of dollars while refusing to compensate the players for their services. This EVIL empire has set these young men up and put them in a position where they have no choice but to go looking for opportunities to earn money with a normal job. However, in a most evil act, this corporation dictates how much these young men are allowed to work and how much they are allowed to be compensated for their services on the establishment that chooses to employ them. I ask you, how many of you when you go into a job interview have no control over how much money you can make? Most of us negotiate our salaries, however, when a company or an individual chooses to pay these young men a salary, this evil corporation steps in and slams their stern hand down and punishes hundreds of innocent people for these young men going out and making a living the best way they know how.

Ladies and Gentlemen of the jury, I will over the next several days prove without any doubt that USC and the rest of the defendants are being punished without cause. The defense will call Pete Carroll, Reggie Bush, Matt Lienart, among others to testify and they will all testify that they are being bullied by an EVIL CORPORATION! Ladies and Gentlemen, you are the only ones who can help to control this situation. You must stand up for the little guys! You must rule against the EVIL CORPORATION that is the NCAA. At the end of this case, YOU MUST sign the petition to have the 2 year ban lifted and FREE THE USC TROJANS!

Until Next Time...

******Who will ever forget the Joker dieing at the end of The Dark Knight, The Wicked Witch melting away to nothing in The Wizard of Oz, the blond kid at the end of The Karate Kid, and last but not least, Scar being killed by his rebillous nephew Simba. Let the jokes begin, but I cried at the end of all of these terible endings.

NO WAY, NO HOW, UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES

NO WAY, NO HOW, & UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES...

I hate growing up. Sure, there are some good things about getting older. I like being married, being able to make my own decisions (kinda...anyone who is married knows you don't ALWAYS make your own decisions), I like having children. There are a lot of good things about growing up, but there are also some really bad things about growing up. I can't fake sick in order to hang out and play video games after my mom and dad goes to work, I can't push everything under my bed and go play outside anymore, I can't just goof off with my friends and not worry about how I am going to make the money to pay the bills. The real world is tough. The worst thing about being an adult is the fact, that you cease to be naive. The President is no longer a great person, there is no tooth fairy who puts money under your pillow, and who will ever forget the time they thought mommy and daddy were getting a divorce because she was kissing Santa Clause. As damaging as all of this is to me, I will never forget what has happened to me over the last several years. Over the past several years, I have realized that the MLB All - Star Game is a JOKE!!! It used to be a great time of exhibition. It used to be a game where all of the stars gathered in one place for one magical night. I AM HERE TO OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCE THE MLB All - STAR GAME DEAD!!!

This game has been on life support for a while. All of us, like any concerned family member would do, have stay gathered around the television sets hoping to see it come back to life. We endured the joke that was the game that ended in a tie. We endured the decision to let the winning League have home field advantage in the World Series & thought maybe this game is on it's way back. I really like that idea, maybe now the players will be competitive and the managers will stop treating this like a little league game where everyone gets to play. Slowly over time, the players got worse and everyone kept playing so the games got worse. Baseball is borderline unwatchable when the players are good, but when you are watching mediocre players it is UNBEARABLE!!!

However, IT IS TIME TO PULL THE PLUG ON THIS GAME!!! The game is dead, it does not matter. Tonight you will witness a HORRIBLE GAME WITH MEDIOCRE PLAYERS, who are there because of little league rules or the kind of person they are and not because they are the best players in the game. Let me identify who I am talking about: Joakim Soria, Matt Thornton, Ty Wiggington, Matt Capps, Evan Meek, Arthur Rhodes, Omar Infante, Marlon Byrd ARE NOT ALL STARS, I DON'T CARE WHERE THEY ARE GOING TO BE TONIGHT!!! When you put players like these in this game, it loses all credibility! These are good players, but not the best in the game & CERTAINLY NOT ALL STARS!

So, I am calling for a boycott! DO NOT WATCH THE GAME!!! If we all turn off the tv and do not watch this garbage, MLB will get the hint and they will stop the madness. However, I know what is going to happen you are going to watch and this game is on it's way to being the equivalent of the Pro Bowl.

Thanks for ruining what once was a great thing Bud.

Until Next Time...

OUCH, THIS IS GONNA HURT...part 2

OUCH THIS IS GONNA HURT...part 2

Ok, on Monday, I made a request and I just want to say thanks, I have had several people take me up on my offer. In fact, I have had so many people take me up on the offer I feel the need to make sure you all know, IT WAS A JOKE!!! Please do not try to drill a hole into my eyeballs.

So what could be this bad? What is the worst thing humanly possible that could have been done to me on July 12, 2010? I will tell you what, on this day, the NCAA announced the plans for adding an additional 4 teams to the Tournament at the end of the year. March Madness is now going to include 68 teams. That is about 52 teams to many. Basketball is different than football and there are usually several teams who deserve a shot at winning it. Cut it down to 16, DO NOT EXPAND IT!!!

This is a terrible idea, but I will watch, because what else do you watch in mid March? Pre Season Baseball, Regualr Season Basketball, Of Course not. I will watch and so will you so I do not even know why I am wasting my time writning this.

Until Next Time...

OUCH, THIS IS GONNA HURT!!!

OUCH, THIS IS GONNA HURT!!! Part 1

I try to be a good person. I try to treat others as I would be treated. Yet somehow today, I had the WORST THING HUMANLY POSSIBLE DONE TO ME!!!

Let me start by saying, I was minding my own business. I was in the middle of sitting on hold at work when this most terrible act occured. Now I have this terrible dilemna on my hands...WHAT DO I DO WITH THE INFORMATION THAT I HAVE FOUND? After many hours of careful thought, I have come to the only possible solution to what is a terrible situation This is a matter that will require your help. I need you to go to Home Depot and buy 4 Butterfly Screws, a drill and a hammer. What am I talking about you ask? listen very carefully because I will probably deny this at a later date, but this is for my own best interest. Between now and March 2011, I need you to let the screws get good and rusted. One night next March, after I go to sleep, I need you to arrange it with my wife (please do not scare her, she will hurt you) to come into my house and hit me in the head with the hammer. I know this sounds drastic, but it is for my own good. After you hit me in the head (please do not kill me, I really like being alive), I need you to plug the drill in and take the butterfly screws and drill them into my eyeballs at 45 degree angles. I want you to do this very slowly. After the screws are completely through my eyeballs, I want you to pull as hard as you can until my eyeballs are completely out of me head. YES, THIS IS GOING TO BE VERY PAINFUL! YES, THIS WILL LEAVE A LASTING EFFECT! YES, THIS IS FOR MY OWN GOOD! I challenge you to do the same thing. As painful as this expierence is, IT IS NOWHERE NEAR AS BAD AS WHAT OCCURED ON THE AFTERNOON OF JULY 12, 2010.

JUST SHUT UP...FOREVER!!!

JUST SHUT UP...FOREVER!!!

Another posting about LeBron James and his decision to go to the Miami Heat. I am sorry, I like to try to change subjects so nobody goes through any overkill on a particular subject and I was prepared to do that until I woke up this morning and looked at my email. This morning i received my daily email from ESPN with the top things going on in sports. I saw the following quote..."His feelings of betrayal personify a slave master mentality. He sees LeBron as a runaway slave." This quote came from "The Reverend" Jesse Jackson. Jackson also made the statement "He speaks as the owner of LeBron and not the owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers."

Ok, before I can address the Jesse Jackson side of this, let me remind you of what he is talking about. On Thursday night, shortly after LeBron made his announcement that he would be going to Miami to play basketball, Dan Gilbert issues a Letter on the teams website (I will post a link to read the letter at the bottom of this posting). Among other things, Gilbert says about the decision "This was announced with a several day, narcissistic, self-promotional build-up culminating with a national TV special of his "decision" unlike anything ever "witnessed" in the history of sports and probably the history of entertainment." He went on to say you don't deserve this type of cowardly betrayal, he said the way it was handled was a shameful display of selfishness. Guess what...EVERYTHING HE SAID WAS 100% RIGHT!!! LeBron is narcissistic, it was a shameful, self promoted, joke that he built up (yes I watched, it was huge and unlike I remember in Sports Free Agency---so did you, don't try to lie to me). However, DAN GILBERT IS JUST ANGRY BECAUSE LEBRON DID NOT CHOOSE HIM!!! If LeBron had gone back to Cleveland none of this would have come out. He'd have been back there and Dan Gilbert would still be giving him everything that he wants. So let's look at what led to this and say THANK YOU DAN GILBERT!!! I KNOW YOU ARE ACTING LIKE A SPOILED BRAT, BUT YOU SAID WHAT THE REST OF US ALREADY KNEW.

Now, onto you, Jesse Jackson. Are you really this dumb? Are you really this egotistical? ARE YOU REALLY SO DESPERATE TO HAVE YOUR NAME IN THE MEDIA THAT YOU ARE WILLING TO MAKE A MOCKERY OF RACIAL ISSUES BY ACCUSING DAN GILBERT OF THINKING OF LEBRON AS A SLAVE? Here is what we can take from Gilbert's comments, He is angry. Guess what, he should be. What Lebron did was publicly spit in the face of Dan Gilbert and all of the fans on the Cleveland Cavs. I realize he was a free agent and could sign where ever he wanted. Good for him, he earned that right. However, Dan Gilbert earned the right to be made aware of the decision before the rest of the world. He had catered to LeBron's ever wish since he drafted him 7 years ago. Gilbert put James friends in positions within the team, allowed them to fly on TEAM flights...all so that HIS STAR was happy. Yes, he deserved to be treated with a little more courtesy than what he was shown. Were his comments angry...ABSOLUTELY. His team just went from being one of the best in the league for the last 5 years to being closer to the bottom than the top. LeBron had the right to leave & leave anyway he saw fit, I get it, but Dan Gilbert had every right to be this angry and if he chooses to handle it publicly, go ahead...after all, it was LeBron James who made this issue a public one to start with.

As to the claim that Gilbert is putting LeBron's health at risk, how is he doing that? Is he burning jersey's? Has he threatened LeBron? Has he done anything else besides accuse LeBron of being a coward (which I have also done, am I threatening James?) I know what he is saying the fans are doing that, and they are fans of his team. The word fan is short for fanatic. Let me tell you the problems with fans...THEY ARE FANATICS!!! They often times don't think clearly, lose all sense of being reasonable, and no matter how smart they are they can't put together a well thought out argument (you clowns and I will get along great during football season). THAT IS WHY THE JERSEY'S ARE BEING BURNED! the way LeBron handled this left the FANS feeling like he betrayed them. The way LeBron handled this left the fans feeling like he turned his back on them and they are UPSET AND WHO ARE YOU JESSE JACKSON, OR ANYONE ELSE FOR THAT MATTER TO TELL THE FANS HOW ANGRY THEY CAN BE?

So listen Jesse Jackson, PLEASE SHUT UP!!! You hurt the LEGITIMATE RACIAL ISSUES EVERY TIME YOU OPEN YOUR MOUTH! Yes racial issues do exist, no America is not perfect, but by taking this and turning it into a racial battle all you are doing is driving a wedge into a situation that should not be driven. If you really want to help race relations in this country, GO HAVE YOUR TONGUE REMOVED AND THE LET SOMEONE SEW YOUR LIPS SHUT!!!

UNTIL NEXT TIME...

THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY

THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY

I can’t believe I am about to type this next sentence, but I have to say I AM SPEECHLESS! The NBA Free Agency period has come and gone. Yes, I realize that there are still lots of guys who have not signed yet and they will be signing over the next week or so, but this class was about the Big 3 of LeBron James, Dewayne Wade, and Chris Bosh. On Thursday night, LeBron made the announcement that he would be “taking his talents to South Beach”. There are many things that can be said about this decision and I am going to give you both the positive and the negatives to this decision. I want to start with the positives that goes into this unbelievable collection of talent. So here you go, the good, the bad, and the ugly with this Super Team…

THE GOOD:
LeBron, Bosh, and Wade are all going to be taking less money in order to play together. Athletes get killed by fans for being all about the money and not playing for the love of the game. These guys will certainly be getting a little compensation (yes, that’s an understatement). I realize they are all going to collect several million dollars, but all three of them walked away from more money and that has to be recognized. It is nice to see that these guys were able to “sacrifice” a little money in an effort to reach the ultimate goal of obtaining several rings.

THE BAD:
There is something about this that feels wrong on so many levels. I can’t help but say as I sit here now and think about the possibility of the guys winning championships, that it seems cheapened. This is not how championships are supposed to be gotten. What happened to building a team through the draft and careful free agent acquisitions? You don’t go out and find the best three players and put them on the same team while releasing everyone else on the team. I have seen this type of behavior before, it is what happens every time I play NBA Live on the playstation. I cut everyone and always get me 3 players and pick up guys who are past their primes, but I still have a soft spot in my heart for them, because I grew up rooting for them. That is ok in playstation, but in real life, it is just wrong.

THE UGLY:
The ugly has not and will not occur for several months. The ugly will come if this “MONSTER” comes back to attack Dr. Frankenstien. The ugly will be when these three ELITE ATHLETES ARE DIVIDED OVER WHO IS THE LEADER ON THIS TEAM. Never before in the history of professional sports have you had this much talent in the prime of their career on the same team. I do not believe this can work. LEBRON HAS A DESIRE TO BE THE BEST BASKETBALL PLAYER IN THE HISTORY OF THE GAME! How is that going to happen when he is going to be viewed as the second fiddle who had to go looking for D-Wade’s help to get his rings. I watched the interview with Jim Gray and watched and listened to LeBron’s face and answer to the question in which Jim Gray called the Heat Wade’s team. LeBron’s answer was “it is not about sharing”. I hate to break it to you LeBron, it is exactly about sharing and unfortunately for you, you will now be second in command because you failed to stay and fight with the people who gave you everything you had in Cleveland, or go to Chicago and try to battle it on the court and prove your ability to lead a team. Maybe you can not do it, maybe the problems in Cleveland were not the teammates, maybe it is your ability to win on the biggest stage. I don’t know and because of this decision, I never wil.

I know what you are saying, the Celtics were able to put their ego’s aside and win and look at how successful they have been. You can say whatever you want to, but from the very first press conference, KG and Ray Allen always stressed it was Paul Pierce’s team. They let it be known, they all realized they were on the backside of their careers and needed to do what was necessary to get their rings. Ray Allen has never been considered in the top 5 best players in the NBA, and KG never played with anyone close to his talent level during his prime. This is not the Boston Celtics, the talent of all three guys is better than what the Celtics have, the egos are bigger, and all 3 of these guys are just now entering the best years of their careers.

There is another side to the ugly. LeBron James made this statement, “You feel like you let a lot of people down.” Yes LeBron you let a lot of people down, but in 15 years when your career is over and you are a 1st ballot Hall of Famer, you will look back on your career and realize that on July 8, 2010 THE PERSON YOU LET DOWN THE MOST WAS YOU!!! See you have as much talent as anyone who ever played the game of basketball. On this night you chose to take the easy way out instead of overcoming. DeWayne Wade said I am staying in Miami, come play with me. What would have happened if James said I want to play with you, but only if we can do it at a neutral site. Would these 3 ended up in the same city, not if you believe Wade. Make no mistake about it, THIS IS DEWAYNE WADE’S TEAM!!! If LeBron can accept that, this team will be ridiculously good, but if not this will get real ugly real fast.

UNTIL NEXT TIME…
This was written at about 11:30 on Thursday night. I will be posting my thoughts on the personal side of it as far as what this decision says about LeBron, the Cavs fans burning LeBron’s jersey, and he letter written by Cavs owner, Dan Gilbert, on the team website.

THE KING HAS LEFT THE BUILDING...

THE KING HAS LEFT THE BUILDING...

For years LeBron James has been known as “The King”. Is he the best player in the NBA? That is debatable; however there is not a bigger name or more marketable face in all of the NBA. This has been the summer that basketball fans have been waiting for. LeBron, D-Wade, Chris Bosh. Some really good players were added to that list like Joe Johnson, Amare Stoudamire, Carlos Boozer, Dirk Nowitkzi just to name a few. Even with all of these great players, LeBron is the big fish. After all, he is “THE KING”!!!

Then talk of a Super Power begins. D-Wade began recruiting LeBron & Chris Bosh to Miami. Wade made it known he wanted to stay in Miami and he wanted the others to join him on HIS TEAM! The possibilities seemed to be great.

July 1, 2010…FREE AGENCY IS HERE!!! Meetings, meetings, and more meetings. Every player is meeting with every team and the entire time, we knew Wade was going back to Miami. LeBron and Bosh seemed to be a natural fit in Chicago, New York, New Jersey, or Cleveland. LeBron needed his Robin. You know the side kick that is always with every great super hero. Batman had Robin, MJ had Pippen, Kobe has Gasol…well LeBron needs his guy and Bosh seems like a perfect fit. Then it is announced that Toronto is talking about a max deal sign and trade with Bosh and Cleveland it looks like LeBron and Bosh are going to build something great in Cleveland. One problem, Bosh said no to playing in Cleveland. On Tuesday, LeBron announced that he made a decision and would announce it on Thursday. Wednesday morning, D-Wade and Bosh announce that they are going to WADE’S TEAM IN MIAMI. Make no mistake, regardless of where LeBron goes, THE HEAT ARE DEWAYNE WADE’S TEAM!!! That does not change for Bosh, James, or anyone else. Wade has a ring, James does not. Wade convinced Bosh to leave app. $30 million and James on the table to come to his team. What we have seen is Dewayne Wade has done one better than LeBron James during this entire process. He got Bosh, stayed home, and announced first stealing the headlines on a day that was supposed to be dominated by the what has he decided to do? I think we have a new king. Dewayne Wade has clearly become the King of the East. Sorry LeBron, you are going to have to do something major to get your throne back. Here is what I suggest…

Go to CHICAGO!!! For all of the talk about a Super Team in Miami, this would create all kind of problems for LeBron, D-Wade, and everyone in Miami. There are not enough balls to go around in Miami. James and Wade play a very similar style and both need the ball to be at their best. They are close to equals in terms of talent, there is no 1 – 2 punch, it is more like 1 – 1a, and James is the 1a on WADE’S TEAM! If he goes to Chicago, he is THE GUY! He rebuilds a storied franchise and he has all of the pieces in place to be a favorite to win the NBA Title for the next 5 years. He goes to a team with more talent than what they have in Miami. He has Derrick Rose, Joakim Noah, and the recently signed Carlos Boozer. These are all good players, but none of them are anywhere close to the talent level of LeBron James. They would all be his Robin. If he goes to Miami and wins, it would be like he cheated his way to his rings. Like on Playstation when you take all of the good players and put them on one team. Winning means nothing because of the fact that you stacked your team.

Lebron if you want to regain your throne the only choice is Chicago. Of course we will all know tomorrow at 9, I can’t wait and I will have plenty of analysis once we know where he is going.

Until Next Time…

WAY TO GO UGA

WAY TO GO UGA...

I have so many things that I want to say and so many of you have such a small attention span. NBA free agency has officially started with players now beginning to announce where they are going. I am very curious to see what Lebron James does. I will post my thoughts on why I believe the “King” has had the “Kingdom” stolen from him.

That however is not the purpose of this particular posting. Right now, I want to write about the hypocrisy of the joke that is the “resignation” of Damon Evans from his position as the Athletic Director at the University of Georgia. Late last week, I was prepared to tell you what a joke the University of Georgia and President Michael Adams were. The AD was just arrested, came real close to trying to bribe an officer, and was exposed as an adulterer. However, at 3:52 on Sunday July 4 I received the following message: “Sources: Georgia dismisses athletic director Damon Evans, who was charged with DUI Thursday.” WOW, talk about your surprises. Even though I believed they had no choice, I thought there was no way that they would actually fire him. Good Job President Adams and the rest of your staff.

Then the following came out…Georgia did not dismiss Mr. Evans, he resigned. This is even better, he made a mistake and he is going to accept responsibility for it. I realize people get DUI’s all of the time and they do not lose their jobs, but there are a couple of things that you have to remember. 1. Damon Evans is “the man” over all of the sports at UGA. HOW CAN THIS GUY PUNISH ANY OF THE ATHLETES WHO GETS A DUI AFTER THIS? I know, he would have been punished, but anything short of him losing his job would have made it a joke if he ever tried to kick someone off of the team unless he paid for his mistake with his job. 2. HE ATTEMPTED TO BRIBE A POLICE OFFICER. I know what you are saying, he specifically told him he was not trying to bribe him…RIGHT! Did you know that I am the AD at UGA? I’m not trying to bribe you, but is there anything I can do not to go to jail for this, did I mention I’m the AD at Georgia?...Yeah no attempt to bribe an officer. The only juror who would not convict him of trying to bribe an officer are the 12 people in Athens who they put in a jury box, anyone else in the state of Georgia would say GUILTY!!!
Somehow, after all of this, the University of Georgia gives him 3 months worth of his salary as a “Buyout”. You can dismiss kids and revoke their scholarship for conduct detrimental to the team but you pay this guy $150,000 (I realize he got an additional $100,000 but that was money that he had already earned). WHAT A JOKE. What happened to the days when you fired someone for not meeting expectations that are set for them? Please do not tell me that he met expectations, because I GAURANTEE YOU that there was some type of “Moral Clause” that stated he would be an example to the young men and women who he represented. Michael Adams and everyone involved with the decision to pay Damon Evans should be ashamed of yourselves. YOU ARE COWARDS WHO HAVE NO RIGHT TO EVER KICK A PLAYER OF ONE OF YOUR TEAMS FOR A DUI!!!

However, NONE OF THIS IS THE WORST PART OF THIS STORY. During the media coverage of this story, I heard 3 things that made me sick. As bad as everything that Damon Evans did, they were not as bad as these 3 things…

1. We need to cut him some slack, because everyone has gotten into a car and driven drunk at one time or another. They cut him some slack by not locking him up in prison for years. I am all for second chances. I realize we all make mistakes. I am also aware of the thousands of people who are killed every year by drunk drivers. As a father, I have an obligation to think about my children. As a parent I have an obligation to think about how my actions might affect other people’s children. AS A PERSON, YOU OWE IT TO ME AND MY CHILDREN TO THINK ABOUT HOW YOUR ACTIONS COULD AFFECT US!!! I realize that this is not a popular way of thinking, but I don’t care. If you drink and drive, you deserve so much worse than any punishment you get. I am sorry if this upsets you, but if you don’t mind drinking, driving, and putting hundreds or thousands of lives at risk, then I don’t mind telling you exactly how I feel about it. NOT EVERYONE DRINKS AND DRIVES.

2. A defense attorney was on a local sports station advising alcoholics how to beat a DUI charge. What kind of a lowlife would go onto radio and advise people who are risking other people’s lives on how to avoid being punished for it. Hey, Mr. Stein, why don’t you just write a how to commit murder and get away with it book. Or better yet, why don’t you go kill someone and then show everyone how to get away with it. The thing that makes this so PATHETIC is the fact that people drink when they watch sports and I guarantee you someone who listened to this guy will use his advice to get themselves out of trouble. Here is a helpful tip for any of you who are trying to figure out how to avoid going to jail for DUI…DON’T DRINK AND DRIVE!!! I’m sure it is all a coincidence, but I have never been arrested for DUI…in fact now that I think about it, I have never even be given a breathalyzer test, it’s amazing what happens when YOU DON’T DRINK AND DRIVE.

3. People were claiming this had something to do with Damon Evans race. Let me just go ahead and clear up this one little secret (just please don’t tell anyone) I AM NOT AN AFRICAN AMERICAN!!! This is important because I don’t want any,” you don’t know what it is like to be a black man in the south responses”. I DON’T, YOU ARE RIGHT!!! However, when people make these kind of IGNORANT CLAIMS, all it does is discount the legitimate (and yes there are still legitimate racist situations that occur every day) cases of racism. How do I know these people were IGNORANT when they made these claims? He was pulled over for DUI and these are the facts…HE ADMITTED TO THE FACT THAT HE AND HIS MISTRESS HAD BEEN DRINKING. This had nothing to do with race, this had to do with his terrible decision to drink and drive. People claimed that this woman was arrested and a big deal was made because he was black and she was white and that led to her arrest. She was arrested because she refused to stay in the car while Mr. Evans was dealing with his issues. Please people SHUT UP WITH THE RIDICULOUS CLAIM THAT RACE HAD ANYTHING TO DO WITH THIS DUI!!!

Until Next Time…

ALL-STARS...REALLY?

ALL-STARS...REALLY?

This is hypocrisy week and I have found the biggest lie in all of Major League Baseball to start the week off with. What hypocrisy does baseball have you ask? The lie that they are going to send the best players in the game to Anaheim.

I love the Mid Summer Classic that is known as the Major League Baseball All - Star Game. The best of the best playing the game that we all love. I remember as a kid gathering all of my neighborhood friends and watching the home-run derby on Monday night. We would then go out to the back yard and attempt to out do the stars from the night before. Tuesday was like Christmas night for us, our favorite players in match ups that you would only dream of. Greg Maddux v. Ken Griffey Jr. Roger Clemens v. Barry Bonds. These were once a year match ups because most of your great players would not make it to the World Series. Bud Selig then got the brilliant idea to give home field advantage in the World Series to the league that won the all - star game, so the game "would mean something to the players".

I have a couple of complaints about the All-Star game. I realize that players want a break and that much I can understand. Who am I to tell someone that they owe it to me as a fan to play in this game. HOWEVER, as a fan, BUD SELIG YOU OWE IT TO ME TO BE HONEST. If a player says I want to take the few days and sleep til 4 in the afternoon in my own bed, then I want to work on my tan while eating ice cream by the pool is ok to me. BE HONEST!!! Bud Selig will try to convince us that this game is all about the best of the best coming together for one magical night. Can anyone please tell me if you are buying the lie that John Buck, Ty Wigginton, Yadier Molina, Jason Heyward, Matt Capps, Arthur Rhodes, Marlon Byrd, or OMAR INFANTE are some of the best players in the game. HEY BUD, THE REASON YOUR SPORT IS DIEING IS BECAUSE THESE ARE YOUR STARS!!!

Let me help you baseball, THIS IS NOT LITTLE LEAGUE, EVERYONE DOES NOT GET TO PLAY!!! Please stop letting every team have a representative. I do not care if the Royals have someone on their team. News flash Bud...KANSAS CITY IS NOT WATCHING THE GAME REGARDLESS OF WHETHER OR NOT JOAKIM SORIA IS ON THE ROSTER. If you want this game to matter, stop making the managers take a player from every team.

Another solution for the game, TAKE REAL STARS!!! Why is BASEBALL'S BIGGEST STAR in 20 years going to be sitting at home? I DO NOT CARE ABOUT STATS!!! It is not called the impressive numbers game, it is not called an achievement game, it is called the All-Star game & I want stars. There is NO bigger star in baseball right now than Stephen Strasburg. He has some of the nastiest stuff we have seen in the last 20 years. Who would not love to see him face off with the starters from the A.L. team (great job fans picking the starters, i think you got every pick right). But instead we say he is 2 - 2, he has 6 starts. He is the most exciting thing baseball has going and somehow Charlie Manuel and Bud Selig managed to mess this up. But at least I will get to see Arthur Rhodes pitch against Ty Wigginton.

Baseball is what it is and I get that, just please stop lying to me about what this game has become, A JOKE!!!

RIP ALL-STAR GAME...

Until next time...

HYPOCRISY...

HYPOCRISY...

This will begin my week long series on hypocrisy in sports. I love sports. There are very few things that I find more enjoyment in than sports. A good sporting event will give you everything you want from an activity: build up, good times with your friends, excitment, joy, disappointment all wrapped up into one.

However, sports also shows us some of the greatest examples in HYPOCRISY in all of the world. As much as I realize that sports is it's own world, I realize there are some things that must change. From the NCAA and thier dumb rules to the way atheltes believe they are above the law and often times find this to be true.

This next week, you will get some of the biggest examples of HYPOCRISY in sports.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Until Next Time...
